LOCAL TEXAS CYCLONES ATHLETES QUALIFY FOR REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

At the 2004 USATF Gulf Association Championship meet held at Barnett Stadium in Houston on June 26 and 27th, twenty members of the Texas Mustangs Track Club qualified for the 2004 USATF Region XII Youth Outdoor Track and Field Championship by finishing in the top 6. Four athletes were Gulf Champions – Stephen Boone in the 400 meter hurdles, Robert Maxey in the long jump & triple jump, Desiree Scott in the high jump, and Jeannette Wacker in the 1500 meter run. The Cyclones, coached by Reggie Taylor and Greg Jenkins, also qualified Brett Bacon in the 400 & 800 meters, Stephen Corbett in the 800 meters, 4 x 400 relay and 2000 meter steeplechase, Heather Cook in the 1500 & 3000 meters, Courtney Haggard in the 4 x 800 relay, Brandon Burton in the 4 x 100 relay and the high jump, Domenique Devito in the 1500 & 3000 meters and the 2000 steeplechase, Ashley Taylor in the 100 meters, Geno Blow in the 100 meters and 4 x 100 relay, Samantha Groff in the 3000 meters and 4 x 800 relay, Monica Stav in the 4 x 800 relay, Josh Pruitt in the 800 & 1500 meters, Khaleela Barnard in the discus, shot-put and javelin, Bethany Elias in the high jump, Cordera Jenkins in the 110 hurdles and 4 x 100 relay, Taylor Echlos in the 4 x 100 relay, Tyler Burton in the javelin, Melba Morgan in the shot put, discus and javelin, Michael Thomas in the shot put, discus and javelin, and additionally Boone in the 4 x 400 relay, Maxey in the 4 x 100 relay, and Wacker in the 800 meters & 4 x 800 relay. The runners will compete in the Region XII championship meet to be held in The University of Texas Arlington Stadium on July 13 – 17th. The top 3 finishers from the Region XII meet qualify for the USATF National Junior Olympics to be held July 27 – August 1 in Eugene, Oregon.

The Mustangs practice at the Clear Lake High School track and are coached by Reggie Taylor and Greg Jenkins.
